Ithumba

Welcome to Ithumba →

Ithumba is a place few discover but none forget. Far from the well-worn safari trail, our three properties in northern Tsavo invite you into wilderness in its most unspoiled form. Guests also enjoy special access to the Trust’s Ithumba Reintegration Unit, where they can experience our conservation work firsthand.

Lodges & Camps

Built into the rocks high above northern Tsavo East, Ithumba Hill is a camp with panoramic views over one of Kenya’s most remote wildernesses.

Hidden among granite kopjes and sheltered within the branches of an ancient baobab, Ithumba Private is an intimate retreat in northern Tsavo.

Set at the base of Ithumba Mountain, Ithumba Camp puts you in the heart of the bush, where elephants, leopards, and wild dogs roam beneath star-studded skies.

A warm, Tsavo
welcome awaits.

The Ithumba
Reintegration Unit

Established in 2004, our Ithumba Reintegration Unit has helped over 100 orphaned elephants reclaim their place in the wild. Nestled in the vast northern sector of Tsavo East, it has become a hub for wild elephants, with herds of all sizes filtering through. Most days, guests are treated to visits from ex-orphans and their wild-born calves.

Guests are invited to join the orphans and their Keepers for sunrise and sunset at the Ithumba stockades, and at the midday mud bath — a rare opportunity to experience elephants in their natural habitat and meet the people who are shaping the future of wildlife.
