Welcome to Galdessa →

Galdessa is a place apart — a timeless retreat on the banks of the Galana River, deep in the heart of Tsavo East. Our two properties offer an intimate window into one of Kenya’s most storied and wildlife-rich landscapes. Guests also enjoy special access to the Trust’s Voi Reintegration Unit, where they can experience our conservation work firsthand.

Lodges & Camps

Galdessa Camp

Set next to the Galana River in the heart of Tsavo East, Galdessa Camp is a singular retreat where elephants meander along the banks and hippos wallow in the waters below.

Galdessa Little

Fringed with doum palms and perched on the banks of the Galana River, Galdessa Little is an intimate camp with uninterrupted views across the water to the Yatta Plateau.

A warm, Tsavo
welcome awaits.

The Voi
Reintegration Unit

Established in 1954 by David Sheldrick himself, Voi is our original Reintegration Unit and the place where it all began. Set within the southern sector of Tsavo East — Kenya’s largest national park and one of its most biodiverse — it holds a unique place in the history of elephant conservation. Generations of orphaned elephants have reclaimed their place in the wild from here.

Guests are invited to join the orphans and their Keepers at the midday mud bath — a rare opportunity to experience elephants in their natural habitat and meet the people who are shaping the future of wildlife. By special arrangement, guests can also visit the orphans in the evening.

Feel the pull
of the wild

Sheldrick Lodges are reimagining unique experiences for conscious travellers. Our intimate safaris, warm and attentive staff, and understated luxury offer guests a grounding yet immersive experience. By blending high-touch hospitality with 50 years of pioneering wildlife conservation, our not-for-profit properties act as stewards of conservation in the ecosystems in which they sit. Sheldrick Lodges are an extension of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, the organisation behind decades of transformative conservation across Kenya. When you stay with us, you aren’t simply visiting; you are directly supporting the preservation of these wild spaces.
