Your stay with us

Before you arrive →

It is our greatest pleasure to welcome you to the wilds of Tsavo. Travelling in this remote corner of the world is a transformative experience, and we want to ensure your journey here is as seamless as possible. Please take a moment to read through the information below, and don’t hesitate to reach out with any further questions.

Exclusivity

All of our lodges and camps are available on an exclusive-use basis. No other guests will be booked to stay at your lodge during your time with us. You are also welcome to reserve more than one lodge at any of our sites, subject to availability.

Staffing

Each lodge is fully staffed. Our friendly team will take care of you during your stay, including turn-down, cleaning, laundry, and food and drink service. Our resident chef prepares all your meals, using the ingredients you bring. We provide both still and sparkling drinking water, along with shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and body wash.

Catering

As our properties are located in remote wilderness areas, guests must come fully prepared with all provisions for the duration of their stay, including ingredients for meals and drinks. Once you arrive, our resident chefs will prepare all your meals. To ensure you are able to enjoy the best culinary experience, we strongly recommend planning your shopping well in advance of your trip. We are happy to connect you with a complete catering service — please let us know when booking.

Check-in and Check-out

Check-in is from 10:00am. Check-out is by 9:30am.

Things to Bring

Beyond your food, drinks, and everyday essentials, a few thoughtful additions can enhance your stay. Pack a hat, sunglasses, and high-strength sunscreen, along with insect repellent and sturdy shoes. A personal first aid kit is always worth packing. Light layers will keep you comfortable by day, while you’ll reach for a warm fleece or jumper on crisp evenings. For wildlife watching, binoculars and a camera are essential. Finally, portable speakers, playing cards, or a favourite game all add to the relaxed camp atmosphere.

Accommodations

Our lodges are refined, well-appointed properties in some of the wildest corners of Kenya. Bedrooms are fully enclosed, while common areas open to the surrounding bush. Please note that our Umani and Ithumba properties have open-air, outdoor showers.

Power & Internet

Each lodge is equipped with solar power and backup generators. Wifi is available in common areas and some rooms, though connectivity can be unreliable. Please note that high-voltage items, like hair dryers, cannot be used at our properties.

Car Hire

A vehicle is required to get around our properties. If you need help hiring a car and driver for your stay, please let our Nairobi office know when booking and we can advise.

Park Fees

Park fees apply at our Ithumba and Galdessa properties. These are not included in lodge rates and are payable direct to the Kenya Wildlife Service. Please pay in advance via the KWS/eCitizen online platform.

Orphan Adoption

To stay at any of our properties, you must be a current foster parent to one of the orphans in our care. Adopting an orphan is a meaningful but easy process that directly supports our pioneering elephant conservation work. Adopt an orphan here.

Elephant Experiences

Guests at Ithumba, Galdessa, and Umani have special access to visit the orphans at the Trust’s Reintegration Units. Please note that if you are staying at a site with more than one Sheldrick Lodge, guests from the other properties may also be present at these experiences. Learn more about orphan visits here.

Sheldrick Lodges are reimagining the luxury safari for conscious travellers. Our private lodges are dotted across four distinct locations within Tsavo Conservation Area, offering guests a gateway into the last great wild corner of Kenya. Sheldrick’s intimate safari experiences, warm and attentive team, and understated soulful luxury combine to offer guests a grounding yet absorbing experience. Blending high touch hospitality with a decades-long commitment to wildlife conservation, our properties don’t merely give back, they act as agents of change for the ecosystems they sit in. And because our non-profit lodges are the first in Kenya to directly support conservation work, each guest leaves knowing their stay benefits one of Africa’s oldest conservation organisations, the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.
